Life can be difficult and draining. We were never meant to “do life” alone. We were designed to walk with each other, to grow with one another and to glorify God together. We are convinced at Vale Community Church that everyone needs the support and encouragement of other people. Everyone needs community and being part of a small group within the church certainly helps in this respect. At Vale Community Church our small groups are called Life Groups.
|What are Life Groups?||Life Groups are small groups of 8-10 people who gather on the second, third and fourth weeks of each month to “do life” together as followers of Jesus. One of our core values is “growing,” and we believe it is important for everyone to find a place to connect and grow. Connecting in a Life Group creates a safe environment to know and be known, love and be loved, encourage and be encouraged, serve and be served, and celebrate and be celebrated. We believe Life Groups are the best place to foster a significant relationship with God and together work out our Christian faith in a way that is meaningful when dealing with everyday situations.
|What can I expect?||The great thing about Life Groups is that they are all different, but they have the same goal and purpose. They exist to help people grow in their faith by facilitating an environment of encouragement, challenge, support and love. The format and atmosphere of each group will be different depending on the leaders and the people in the group.
Here are some of the things you can expect about Life Groups: Expect to laugh - we like to have fun and enjoy life with one another. Expect to grow - we want to help people take forward steps in their relationship with God. Expect to be loved - we will not make you feel judged or criticised. We are all works in progress. We believe in taking slow steps together.
|How do I join a Life Group?||
Life Groups have an informal and relaxed feel and meet in homes across the village. They are designed to be life-enriching times of social interaction. They include worship, some discussion about how we apply the Bible to our lives, and prayer for issues that emerge from the chatting together. All groups include refreshments at some time during the evening.
We have groups meeting on:
Monday evenings (1st & 3rd) - men's group in Wootton Green
Monday evenings (2nd & 4th) - mixed group in Wotton Green
Wednesday evenings - mixed group in Stewartby
Wednesday evenings - mixed group in Bedford
Friday mornings (1st, 2nd & 3rd) - two mixed groups in Marston Moretaine
Friday afternoons (term-time) - young mum's group in Marston Moretaine

We have established Nurture Groups to help 'enquirers' and new Christians know more of the basic building blocks of the Christian faith. The aim of the groups is to:
The material we have used includes: "Scenes of Life" by John Robertshaw, a series of studies looking at what the Bible says on important life issues all the way from birth through to death; "First Steps" also by John Robertshaw, which aims to lead people step by step to a fuller understanding of what Christians believe and to help them live their lives with God; and "The Big Story" by Mark Powley, which is a manageable way to grasp the story of the BIble by taking a 40-day express tour of the whole Bible.
