Local Community

Our heart is to be incarnational and missional in what we do, going to the people of Marston Moretaine, listening to their needs and concerns, building relationships and serving/blessing them in a way that expresses God’s love. We have started to do this through:
Open The Book A team goes in to two lower schools on most Mondays to lead Open The Book assemblies: Forest End Lower in Marston Moretaine and Broadmead Lower in Stewartby. These assemblies offer a free programme of themed and dramatised Bible stories, each around 10 minutes long that fit comfortably into the assembly times for the school. Storytellers use drama, mime, props, costume - even the children and staff themselves - to present Bible stories in ways that are lively, engaging, informative and great fun for everyone involved!
Children's Counselling
One of our team (a trained counsellor) along with another counsellor from Bromham Baptist Church go into two local schools on a regular basis to provide counselling for any children or young people that would benefit from it. We recognise that children and young people sometimes experience emotional difficulties for a number of reasons. It may be due to a change in circumstances such as separation, divorce, bereavement, illness, abuse, low self-esteem, problems at school or at home. Our aim is to enable each child or young person to become clearer about what is happening to them and to provide a safe space to understand the events in their lives.
The Need Project We have joined The Need Project along with other local churches to help those people in central Bedfordshire and the surrounding area that are in poverty or financial hardship. This is achieved by: providing food packages to support individuals and families who are experiencing food deprivation; and providing other items to meet immediate and essential needs, as resources allow.
Village Green Care Home A team from Vale Community Church and St Mary's CoE Church go into the Care Home once a month to lead a 20 minute service for the residents and carers, and then have a chat over a cup of tea.
Hands Across the Village Hands Across the Village is run by volunteers in the church to provide help to residents in the village. Help includes: changing light bulbs and fuses; short-term help at home; small gardening jobs; minor DIY jobs; and providing lifts. If you are stuck and need some help, just call 07761080611.
School Fêtes We have been involved with both Broamead Lower and Church End Lower School fetes: providing the PA system and helping serve refreshments at Broadmead Lower; and putting on puppet shows and workshops, and helping serve on stalls at Church End Lower.
Street Watch Two of our team are members of Street Watch, which is about local residents promoting good citizenship and supporting a better community by patrolling their own streets in high visibility jackets. It is hoped that the visible presence will have significant and positive impact on reassurance and quality of life issues within the community.
Speed Watch One of our team is a member of Speed Watch, which is about promoting safer driving in our local communities by educating rather than prosecuting individuals. Data collected by Community Speed Watch groups is passed to Bedfordshire Police who may undertake speed checks and result in drivers being prosecuted.
